GALA Charity Event

There were three memorable moments at ''GAZeL-a-Ganza,'' a charity gala that assembled an array of professionals interested in eLearning at the Fort McDowell Radisson Hotel in Fountain Hills, Arizona.
One special moment was the appearance of the OLPCi XOs and ASUS eeePC to demonstrate how this new technology is redefining how we can close the growing technological gap between rich and poor -- a 'digital divide' -- that leaves too many in an "information underclass."
	The next memorable moment was the presentation by Dr. Paula Curley, the Advocacy and Policy Director for Save the Children Federation, Southwest Region. She showed the documentary film produced for Idol's Gives Back. A portion of it was filmed in Arizona. The
GLFi is looking forward to working on further opportunities with this special international organization, working in 110 countries. http://www.savethechildren.org/ The other key moment was different. Senator Albert Hale, Arizona State Senate, District 2 and Former President of the Navajo Nation, discussed what literacy means to the Navajo Nation. It was a moving presentation and highlighted many important aspects.

The rest of the program highlights included several raffled items, the
sale of some OLPC XOi hand cranks and the final presentation of an OLPC to one lucky participant.

Golf Fundraiser

The next day's golfing on May 2nd was at the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, voted one of America’s Top 10 New Public courses by Golf Digest, January, 2008. The event began with a shotgun start at 2pm and finished with an awards banquet at 5pm. Many awards and gifts were presented. The top prize went to Senator Hale.
